Beyond translation, I help verify historical details and provide guidance when contacting German authorities or archives—ensuring your research is accurate and complete.

Case Study: Reconstructing a Family History Across Borders

I have been working with one genealogy client over several years on a particularly complex and rewarding case.

What began as a transcription project evolved into a detailed reconstruction of family history. The records included multiple German birth certificates, marriage and divorce documents, as well as U.S. immigration records from Ellis Island immigration.

Throughout the process, I:

  • Transcribed original handwritten and printed German documents into modern German
  • Provided accurate English translations in official document formatting
  • Cross-referenced German records with U.S. immigration documents
  • Identified name changes that occurred during immigration
  • Helped clarify complex family dynamics, including marriages, divorces, and children born out of wedlock
  • What made this project unique was the level of analysis involved. By combining linguistic expertise with knowledge of German history and social context, I was able to help piece together inconsistencies and answer key questions for the client.

This work went far beyond translation—it became a collaborative process of uncovering and verifying a family’s history.

For genealogy clients, I don’t just translate documents—I help connect the story.
